MIKE SKIDMORE– PORTRAIT IN OILS MASTERCLASS AND WORKSHOP.
“I use traditional techniques to create compelling darks and evocative lights. To create shadows with depth I use overlaid layers of transparent paint (glazes) and I use more opaque paint to bring the lighter areas forward. My paintings always begin with a pencil drawing, followed by a grisaille (grey and white underpainting) to address composition and tone. I then work oils on top to create the finished colours and textures. This approach allows me to create pictures that explore character and suggest a narrative”.
FEE: £50.00pp to include coffee, tea biscuits etc.
Many local eateries close by or bring a packed lunch. Time to browse our other Open Studios and exhibitions.

JOSIE BROWN- GILDING MASTERCLASS AND WORKSHOP.
“This workshop will de-mystify and introduce the art of gilding with techniques suitable for including in paintings or books, on paper, vellum, canvas, etc., but notfor frames or furniture.
We will use 23¾ct gold leaf as well as other metals such as copper, aluminium and variegated gold to offer a range of gorgeous lustrousness! An exploration of the processes involved – learning how to lay various mordants (each of which gives a slightly different result), when to lay the leaf, and how to burnish it to a mirror-shine – will give a grounding from which to try more personal designs contrasting the diverse effects, as well as a useful reference to take away. Participants can bring their own designs to gild (keep these within 8 x 8cm size) or use those provided on the day, but only bring drawings as any painting or other embellishment is always applied after gilding”
Materials that will be provided unless you wish to bring your own
