The beautiful village of Painswick, along with the surrounding villages nestling along the Painswick Valley, all enjoy being in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Cotswolds. Painswick itself is of major historical and architectural significance, yet remains unspoilt, thus attracting artists and visitors from near and far.
With much artistic talent on the doorstep, art exhibitions have been embedded into community life. In 2009 these were brought together under one uniting 'umbrella' by a group of artists and enthusiasts, and 'The Painswick Valley Arts Festival' was born. Presented annually until 2015, it is now a bi-annual event (to alternate with the wonderful 'Art Couture Painswick' Festival), and each year becomes bigger and better. The event itself was renamed 'ARTBURST' in 2014, it aims to provide opportunities for local artists to display and sell their work, and to present exciting Arts events, demonstrations and exhibitions for local residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy, over the 10 days leading up to and including the August Bank Holiday. There is little doubt that alongside 'Art Couture Painswick' presenting its festival on alternate years, Painswick has become a major venue for the Arts in Gloucestershire and beyond. From this year the vision for 'ARTBURST' is to further embrace the talents of artists along the whole Painswick Valley, along with those from other parts of Gloucestershire. Here are some glimpses of new work to be shown this year, and examples from previous years: -
